Yarra River

The cool mountain waters that start in the Upper Yarra Ranges are the perfect answer for the typically hot Melbourne summers, and with many swimming holes scattered along the riverbanks, it’s easy to find a private place to cool down. A favourite summer activity for any visitor is to spend the warm summer days by the Yarra River.

Some of the favourite swimming holes around Warburton include:

· Opposite Warburton Golf Club in the west of town, close to Golfview Villa

· Many swimming holes around the Warburton Caravan Park

· One of the larger holes to the east of Warburton Redwood Bridge

· The freshly revamped rocky embankment in the centre of town

. A couple of them in Millgrove, along Dee Road

Alternatively, you can find your own slice of riverside real estate on the Yarra River Walk.

If swimming isn’t your thing, grab yourself a floating tube and set about lounging your way down the river. In our opinion, this is one of the best activities for summertime in Warburton. Most people tend to start their tube float at the Warburton Caravan Park and float down to Thomas Ave in the centre of town, then jump out to do it all over again.

Finally, if you’re the adventurous kind, kayaking is one of the best things to do during summer. The upper Yarra has excellent grade 2-3 Kayaking for intermediate paddlers. Ride the waves east of Warburton town, then keep paddling to Millgrove or launch at Woods Point Road at the edge of Warburton and exit at Dee Road.

Mount Donna Buang

The summit is 1250 meters above sea level, offering panoramic views from the viewing tower and has several tracks for bushwalking or cycling. In winter, it offers snow play and tobogganing.

Approximately 80 kilometres (50 mi) from Melbourne, Mount Donna Buang is the closest natural snowfield to Melbourne and is less than 100 KMs from Melbourne Central.
It has a 20-metre-high lookout tower which offers great views over the surrounding mountains ranges across the famous Yarra Valley. On a clear day, Melbourne City can also be seen from the observation tower.

Redwood Forest

Take a stroll in the company of almost 1500 enormous, red-barked trees, some of which stand up to 55 metres high, towering into the sky. Head through the forest and down to the river to find the forest's walking trails. Redwood Forest is around 15 minutes from Warburton. From Warburton, follow Warburton Highway/Woods Point Road for about 7km to find Cement Creek Road on your left. Less than 1 kilometre along this unsealed road leads to a small car park and entrance.
